I finished reading the ROTS novel a few days ago, and really enjoyed it. ;D I loved all the extra detail and knowing what all the characters were thinking. The only thing I didn't like about it, was I felt that at the end, from about the time Obi-Wan and Anakin fight to the very end, the author rushed through it, and didn't give the kind of details he gave the rest of the book.
But other than that, it was great!
I would give the novel 3 stars.
The author really annoyed me with all his stops to say, "This is Obiwan Kenobi."
"This is Anakin Skywalker."
"Think is Count Dooku."
"This is Anakin and Obi-wan."
"This is General Grievous." (okay, it was the only good one)
"This is Padme Amidala."
"This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, RIGHT NOW." x2
and launch into a monologue thing in the middle of everything. Why not start going:
"This is The Captain of the Invisible Hand"
"This is CloneTrooper # 1398"
"This is how if feels to be San Hill, right now."
"This is how it feels to be Oddball, right now:"
"This is the chair Palpatine is sitting in."
"This is how it feels to be the Utai that fills up Obi-wan Kenobi's starfighter fuel tank on Utupau"
"This is a Senate pod, in the light."
"This is how it feels to be Paplatine's handcuffs"
A pretty poor way to start describing things.
And he really bugged me with the 1/2 dozen one-word sentances he would do on
one page. And, like Zen said, he rushed throught the end. Obi-wan didn't even fight Grievous till 2/3 in to the book- and Obi-wan seemed to be too super-heroish.
I really can't STAND the beginning of chapter 7.
Drives me crazy.
Sorry, ^ if all that seems like I'm ranting
As you can tell, I don't think much of Matthew Stover's writing style.
